ST 062: Introduction to UTK on iTunes U (Online Notes)

Introduction

UTK on iTunes U iTunes© U is a dedicated area within the iTunes Store (www.itunes.com). It features a free, hosted service for colleges and universities that provides access to their educational content; course lectures, interviews, lab demonstrations, etc. Other content, such as sports highlights and campus tours can also be hosted within iTunes U. iTunes U allows colleges and universities to open all or part of their content to the public, parents and alumni, or restrict content to only those enrolled in the course. An iTunes U introduction video is available from Apple's website.

Access to iTunes U is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Instructors can easily upload audio and video files on their own through the simple iTunes U interface. Students can upload their work to share with the instructor or with their classmates. And, just like iTunes, students can download content to ther computers, iPods or other mobile devices regardless of their location. These downloaded audio and video files make their course subject more "alive" than just the printed page.

The UTK on iTunes U launch page can be found at http://itunesu.utk.edu. You can enter the site as a visitor by clicking the Public UTK on iTunes U link. The iTunes application will open up on your computer. If you do not have iTunes installed on your machine, get iTunes here.
