Test Placement in Course Site

Online assessment provides the instructor with a flexible test environment, which automatically provides feedback to students. Correct test placement within a course is the key to effectively evaluating the learning of your students.

Consider your options:
  • Surveys
  • Weekly homework check-ups
  • Pre-tests
  • Post-tests

Assessing the knowledge your students bring to your course provides a foundation from which you can develop the rest of your course.  Consider using a survey at the start of the course to collect aggregated data about your students’ pre-existing knowledge.

Where should I put my quizzes and tests? Basically, you have two options: gathered or integrated.
standard and integrated

You can gather all of your surveys, quizzes, and tests under one navigation button, called "Assignments" or "Quizzes."

Integrated: Focus on one unit and integrate all the components under one navigation button. For example:

  • Pre-unit survey
  • Readings
  • Links
  • Video clips
  • Podcasts
  • Self-assessment
  • Final unit assessment

So each content area becomes a discrete location with all the relevant content and activities in one virtual space.
