Course Management System (Online@UT)
CMS 113: Online@UT's Assessment Tools
Delivery Options
Test Options
- Allow multiple attempts. Timely Tip: the system records only the last attempt.
- Force Completion
- Set Timer: Timely tip: to comply with ADA requirements the Blackboard system warns students one minute before the time is up. It does not warn them again. All are allowed to complete the exam. The system enters a LOCK on the grade and the instructor clicks on the LOCK to view the student’s exam and the exact number of minutes and seconds that the student went over the established time. Each of these must be hand-entered into the grade book.
- Display After…Display Until: adding date restrictions can be convenient, especially for a timed assessment. However, the date restrictions can cause problems in copying course content in a later semester.
- Password: this feature could be useful in offering a make-up exam to a particular student.
Feedback

Studies reveal that students benefit from plentiful, rapid, detailed feedback from an instructor. You can write feedback for correct and incorrect responses. In selecting how much information to reveal consider the possibilities for students to share correct answers. Keep it simple. We recommend Score Only.
Test Presentation

- All at once. Timely tip – students can then print and share the exam questions.
- One at a time and prohibit backtracking. In some cases you may want students to be able to return to an earlier answer and change it. This strategy could be part of the learning process. However, if you force completion and deliver questions one at a time, then you force students through the exam in a linear manner. This strategy may be appropriate for your material.
