Digital Video Cameras: Additional Operations
Battery, Flash, Image Size, Rec ModeBattery
The camera must be turned OFF in order to charge the battery. It is not necessary to remove the battery for recharging. Open the DC IN cover and connect the AC power adaptor to the DC IN jack of the camera with the small triangle mark facing up. Connect the power cord (mains lead) to the AC power adaptor and then to a wall outlet (mains). The POWER ON/OFF lamp (orange) below the LDC
screen lights up when charging begins and goes off when a full charge is completed. After charging disconnect the AC power adaptor from the DC IN jack on the camera.
Flash
The flash will automatically strobe when surroundings are dark, as long as the setting is on AUTO. To change this flash mode, press FLASH (lightning bolt/arrow) repeatedly so that the flash indicator appears on the LCD screen. Each time the button is pressed, the indicator changes to an eye symbol (auto red-eye reduction), lightning bolt (forced flash), or a strike through lightning bolt (no flash). The flash will only illuminate the shooting distance up to 8 feet.
Flash Intensity (High/Normal/Low):
- Select Camera from the menu, then Flash Level.
- Select High to make the flash level higher than normal.
- Select Normal for a flash of normal intensity (default setting).
- Select Low to make the flash level lower than normal.
Image Size
- When in Still Mode, select File from the Menu, then Image Size. The size options will differ based on whether you're recording to the Memory Stick or the Floppy Disk (MS or FD); select 1024 x (FINE) or 1024 x 768 for most projects.
- When in Movie Mode, select FIle from the Menu, then Image Size. Choose 160 x 112 for a 60 second recording or 320 x 240 for a 15 second recording.
Rec Mode
Select File from the Menu, then Rec Mode. Select one of the following modes:
- Normal: Select this mode when you wish to record a JPEG file in 1024x768 or 640x480 image size.
- E-Mail: Select this mode when you wish to record a JPEG file in 1024x768 or 640x480 image size, along with a 320x240 JPEG file. E-mail files are suitable for e-mail transmissions because they contain compressed data.
- Text: Select this mode when you wish to record an image of a text document. Text is recorded in GIF file format to provide a clear image.
- Tiff: Select this mode when you wish to record a photo-quality non-compressed image (640x480) along with the JPEG file. You must record on the Memory Stick.
