The front and back surfaces of the slide are different. The front, or base, has a glossy surface and the back, or emulsion, has a matte surface. When using the multiple slide feeder attachment, load the slide into the scanner with the glossy side in front. When using the single slide attachment, load with glossy side up.To scan negatives you will need to insert your negative into the negative carrier. Each frame on the negative you wish to scan will have to be individually positioned. Insert the negative carrier into the scanner.
