CMS 110 Introduction to Online@UT

    Friday, August 10, 9 AM - 12 PM
    Tuesday, August 14, 1 PM - 4 PM
    Thursday, August 16, 9 AM - 12 PM
    Tuesday, November 27, 1 PM - 4 PM
    Wednesday, December 5, 9 AM - 12 PM
    Thursday, January 3, 9 AM - 12 PM (2309 Kingston Pike)
    Friday, January 4, 1 PM - 4 PM (2309 Kingston Pike)

One way to increase interaction with and among students is to augment face-to-face lectures with more engaging activities such as self-paced tutorials, discussion forums, and live chats. Online@UT makes it easy to organize and post these materials online for students to access anytime from anywhere via the Web. In this introduction to Online@UT's course management system, participants will access their online course site, receive an overview of instructor development tools and resources, and learn to upload a variety of document types.

Either this workshop or CMS 110OL is required to obtain access to your Online@UT course site. Only faculty, graduate teaching associates / assistants (GTAs), and staff with teaching responsibilities can be CMS-certified. GAs and other staff may take this workshop, but will not be entered into the certification database.

CMS 110OL Introduction to Online@UT (online section)

    Registration open continuously

In this introduction to Online@UT's course management system, participants will become acquainted with the system's main functions and features, including posting content, creating online assessments, tracking grades, transferring documents, and fostering effective electronic communication (e-mail, discussion boards, chats). Participants will be expected to demonstrate proficiency with these tools upon completion of the course.

CMS 110 OL may be taken in lieu of the required three-hour CMS 110 workshop. However, in order to become a certified Online@UT user, online participants will be required to complete all assignments satisfactorily within one week of first gaining access to the course. Only faculty, graduate teaching associates / assistants (GTAs), and staff with teaching responsibilities can be CMS-certified. GAs and other staff may take this workshop, but will not be entered into the certification database.

Because CMS 110 OL is delivered completely online, we ask that only experienced computer users register for it. In order to complete the required tasks, you will be expected to:

  • Work simultaneously in two browser windows
  • Copy and paste text from a word processor (for example, Microsoft Word)
  • Browse in your operating system (using, for example, Windows Explorer) to find a document stored on your computer
  • Download files from the Internet and save them to your computer

If you are unfamiliar with these tasks, we ask that you instead register for CMS 110, the two-hour, face-to-face workshop.
