Envisioning New Ways to Create Community

Dr. Cecilia Zanetta

Assistant Professor
Department of Urban and Regional Planning

From Internal Grants to the Larger Community

In the summer of 2000, Cecilia found herself the recipient of an ITC-sponsored Teaching with Technology grant. The result of her work was a module, specifically, an Excel spreadsheet which functioned as a toolkit to teach cost-benefit analysis. Within the course "Policy and Land Use Analysis," students are required to take a project and use the Excel toolkit as a tool to evaluate the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of that particular project.

With a quality grant product in hand she has begun to share her expertise with a larger audience. She has submitted the module to the MERLOT (Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching) digital database. In a further effort to share her successful experiences she has submitted proposals to present at the MERLOT International Conference being held in August of 2001. She will also present her work at the National American Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning Conference (ASCP) in November, 2001.
