Modest Beginnings

laptopDolly credits the 2000 National Alumni Association/CUE/ITC Grant with jump-starting her professional development. She received a laptop computer as well as access to intensive faculty development training opportunities. At the same time, Dolly applied for and received an ITC Teaching With Technology Grant. She used the grant to develop "Welcome to Spanish," an online module using Online@UT (the University's implementation of the Blackboard course management system) as the delivery vehicle.

"Welcome to Spanish" was developed primarily to offer more than 2,000 lower-division Spanish students access to important information about the program, such as a list of course offerings with instructor names, a Spanish tutor list, a list of textbooks, and a host of other information directed toward student success. A secondary aim of the online module was to motivate students to take responsibility for their own learning.
