Dr. John Wachowicz

Professor
Department of Finance

The Tour

Sitting in a class of almost 200 people has the potential to be intimidating, boring, or at the very least uninspiring.  Sitting in Finance 301 with John Wachowicz at the helm is none of those things.  From the moment class begins until class is dismissed, his animated delivery captures the attention of his students.  Just by observing the posture of those taking the class, one can tell that they are focused on the subject at hand.  Who is this man, and how does he manage to wrangle in the minds of the students in his charge?

John Wachowicz began teaching at the University of Tennessee in 1977.  Prior to teaching, he received both his undergraduate and master’s degrees in accounting from the University of Illinois.  After spending two years in the Army, Dr. Wachowicz returned to the University of Illinois to pursue a doctorate degree, this time in finance.  He felt the switch appropriate as “it was a chance to do more applied accounting, take the numbers, and make some decisions.”
