Faculty Spotlight
April 2001: Dr. Suzan Murphy
Teaching with Technology Grant
As a grant recipient, she was required to select from a variety of courses offered by ITC. She chose to work with CourseInfo and with PowerPoint, both highly effective tools given the instructional challenges she faced.
Because
of the large class size, up to 115 students per section, and the fact that
the course is taught in an auditorium setting, not a lab, she hands out a
paper syllabus at the beginning of each course. However, she immediately
posts the syllabus, extra-credit assignments, and handouts online in CourseInfo.
She uses the Announcement section regularly to keep her students informed
about upcoming events that might be professionally useful for them, and information
about approaching quizzes. The fundamentals of finance, such as the time value of money, capital budgeting, or annuities, are perfect candidates for modular development.
