Integrating Technology into Broadcast Journalism

Mark Harmon

Associate Professor
College of Communications and Information Sciences

Dr. Mark D. Harmon is a former television news producer and reporter, radio news reporter, and interview program host. He also has been on the other side of the news, as a 1998 congressional candidate in Texas, and as campaign manager of a local candidate for Knox County Sheriff. He has published guest columns in scores of periodicals, ranging from daily newspapers to the Chronicle of Higher Education. Prior to accepting his current position at UT, Mark spent 10 years at Texas Tech. Mark's unique blend of life experience informs his teaching as an Associate Professor of Broadcasting in the College of Communications and Information Sciences.

Mark credits much of his success with technology integration to a personal interest in developing online resources, the support of good colleagues, and the availability of good university resources and support. Shortly after his arrival at UT, Mark introduced himself to the Innovative Technology Center staff. He attended some introductory workshops and developed Online@UT course websites for his classes. Mark's most recent innovations include two instructional websites: Mass Media Ethics and Thinking Visually.
