Of Computers, Bugs, and Walking Sticks...Jerome F. GrantProfessorEntomology and Plant Pathology Agricultural Experiment Station |
During his 17-year career at the University of Tennessee, Dr. Jerome F. Grant has demonstrated that outstanding research, teaching, and service can be blended effectively. Dr. Grant, Professor of Entomology and Plant Pathology, currently holds joint teaching/research appointments in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and the Agricultural Experiment Station. Colleagues have described him as a dedicated teacher committed to students of all ages, and as a tireless and innovative faculty member. As one student described him, “he makes learning fun and contagious.” His peers and students alike have recognized Dr. Grant’s professional activities. Dr. Grant has received the prestigious E. R. Lidvall Outstanding Teaching Award, the W.S. Overton Faculty Merit Award, and the Chancellor’s Citation for Extraordinary Community Service, and was recently honored by the Southeastern Branch of the Entomological Society of America with the Distinguished Achievement Award in Teaching for 2003.
Dr. Grant first began integrating technology into his instruction five years ago when he began posting lecture notes on his personal Web space. He quickly realized that “it just wouldn’t do.” A colleague suggested that he take a look at using Online@UT. The rest is, as they say, history.
