ITC Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Becky Bolen

Faculty Fellows Get Started
Dr. PaulusDr. Combs-Orme Drs. Terri Combs-Orme and Trena Paulus began working with OIT as Instructional Technology Faculty Fellows last month. During this academic year, they will pursue projects designed to advance exemplary teaching and enrich the experience of students in their colleges and throughout the campus. Dr. Paulus will focus on effective collaboration in online environments and on the development of guidelines for designing research around technology integration. Dr. Combs-Orme will develop several podcasts for the College of Social Work and provide guidance for media development and integration in teaching to facilitate student engagement.

The Fellows will also lead Communities of Practice (CoP) in areas of interest to them and faculty colleagues. Be on the lookout for an opportunity to provide input regarding your CoP interests.



Project RITE Information Session
Interested in how instructional technology affects student learning? Would you like to conduct your own research in this area? Please join us from 3-4 p.m. on Monday, September 28 in Hoskins 110 for a Project RITE (Research of Instructional Technology in Education) Info Session. You'll hear from past grant recipients about their projects and learn about the RITE 2010 application process.

2010 Project RITE proposals are due on October 13.

More Technology Classes for You & Your Students
We have a variety of classes for students scheduled in September on using productivity tools such as Word and Outlook, and Web design tools such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Flash. Quick courses cover Google, blogging, and UNIX in under an hour.

trainingA variety of research courses are available as well. These are open to you and your students. Topics include SAS, SPSS, LabView, and the Newton Cluster.

the CommonsStarting on Tuesday, September 8, consultants will be available from 10am - 2pm, Monday through Friday, in Commons South. During busy times of the year we will extend our coverage to 8am - 5pm, Monday through Friday.

Course Capture in Hoskins 110
If you need to webcast one or more class sessions, or capture sessions for use later, the course capture system in Hoskins 110 is just what you need! In addition to real-time webcasting and time shifting of class sessions, this technology can be used to create supplemental presentations, to preserve presentations by guest lecturers, and for advance recording of review sessions prior to exams.

MediasitePlease note that logistical and technical considerations require that this service be scheduled no less than 24 hours in advance, and may not be available at certain times. In addition, this facility cannot be reserved as a class venue on a semester-long basis, only for specific, individual sessions scheduled in advance.
