ITC Announces Faculty Fellows
The ITC is pleased to announce two Faculty Fellows
for the 2009-2010 academic year:

Terri Combs-Orme Trena Paulus
Dr. Terri Combs-Orme
College of Social Work
Dr. Trena Paulus
Educational Psychology
and Counseling

Drs. Combs-Orme and Paulus will each work with the ITC approximately ten hours a week during the upcoming academic year on instructional technology projects to advance exemplary teaching and enrich the experience of students in their colleges and throughout the campus. We're very excited about these collaborations as both have a long history of implementing technology in their teaching as well as a working relationship with the ITC. Of specific note, Dr. Combs-Orme will lead a Community of Practice (CoP) for faculty interested in sharing ideas for podcast production, either as student class projects or learning objects within their class. Dr. Paulus will lead a CoP that will focus on fostering interaction/collaboration in online environments.
More information will be available early fall semester!

Clicker Technology to Change
UTK's clicker technology standardization will be switching from eInstruction to Turning Technologies effective Fall 2009. During Spring 2009, ITC conducted a clicker technology pilot study with Turning Technologies. Nine clicker faculty users, representing various disciplines, participated in the study. Eight of the nine participants recommended switching from eInstruction's CPS system to Turning Technologies' TurningPoint system.

Benefits faculty identified with the TurningPoint
system included:
  • Ease of use in creating and delivering quizzes
  • Quiz delivery without PowerPoint or in-class computer via ResponseCard Anywhere
  • Response submissions via the clicker or mobile devices: cell phone, PDA, or a laptop computer
  • Integration with Blackboard Grade Center
  • No student registration purchase
  • Less overall cost for students
If you're using clickers this fall, you will need to receive TurningPoint training. ITC and Turning Technologies will begin training all current and interested faculty on the new clicker technology throughout the summer and two weeks prior to fall semester. All faculty known to be using clickers will be contacted with the training dates via e-mail. Training dates will also be posted on the ITC website. If you haven't done so already, be sure to place your fall 2009 clicker order with the UT Bookstore immediately.
