START Provides Presentation Assistance in the Commons
The Practice Presentation Room and the Martha L. King Group Study Room within The Commons provide facilities for UTK students, faculty, and staff to practice a presentation in a realistic environment. These facilities may also be used for videoconferences, as well as meetings requiring the use of a SMART Sympodium and projector, or a SMART Board interactive display.
ITC’s Student Technology Assistants for Research and Teaching (START) team members are available to provide training and assistance to anyone using the equipment. The rooms may be reserved for training Monday through Friday, 9am – 6pm. The space may be reserved up to two weeks in advance. The rooms may be used for practice, group study, or meetings at other times on a first-come-first served basis.
The Office of Information Technology provides these services within The Commons as an extension to the equipment available in their Technology Enhanced Classrooms throughout the UTK campus.
To schedule SMART Board or videoconferencing training or to reserve the practice presentation rooms, you will need to complete the reservation form at http://itc.utk.edu/web/commons.
The practice presentation rooms include:
- A SMART Sympodium, which is an interactive pen display mounted within the podium, a document camera, and a DVD-VCR combo.(Room 226)
- A mobile codec videoconferencing system with a 40 inch LCD monitor, speakers, and stereo amplifier.(Room 226)
- A SMART Board.(Room 220C)
You will need to bring your personal laptop computer or check out a computer from The Commons. We will be glad to help you install the required SMART Board software onto any personal laptop computer you will be connecting to the Sympodium or the SMART Board. The software is available at http://smarttech.com.
