About ITC
Newsletter: Fall 2006
Chancellor's Corner
As we all know, change is
the only constant in life. This is certainly
more true in our age of “technopoly”
than at any other time in human history. Many
veteran faculty will recall the demise of
the venerable card catalog
and may also remember the stir it caused among
many of us because of our caution about the
new electronic
technologies that were beginning to transform
our libraries and classrooms. These days,
the Library Commons
has replaced the reference and periodical
rooms and our students employ electronic learning
tools in ways
unimagined even a few years ago.Happily, the ITC has been here to assist us in navigating these new electronic waters. The University will continue to innovate in research and institutional technology, and I encourage all of us to take full advantage of the ITC’s expertise and assistance. Our challenge will be to select the technology appropriate to enhancing our own research as well as the learning of our students. Our expectation, of course, is that technology will facilitate effective interaction between our faculty and students, enabling us to meet the needs and expectations of our increasingly able students.
Many thanks to Julie Little and her staff for their leadership in instructional technology, and a warm welcome to all of you as we begin the new school year.
